Promoting Participatory Budget benefits among Kiev citizens

   On July 7th, 2016 Vyacheslav Zubenko, Director General of the Institute for Budgetary and Socio-Economic Research, that implements the USAID Municipal Finance Strengthening Initiative (MFSI-II) Roll-out Project, shared, on the air of Kyiv radio station "Kiev Voice", his views as to the Participatory Budget and its benefits. Namely, it provides for the citizens an access to the city budget by means of submitting their own projects aimed at improving city's living conditions and by way of selection of such projects through an open voting procedure.
    Those projects obtaining the greatest support from residents shall be implemented with funds from the municipal budget. MFSI-II project is responsible for the elaboration of an electronic system for projects’ submission and will provide automation of this process at all its phases. The interview was an outcome of a round table on Participatory Budgeting implementation recently held by the Kiev city administration and MFSI-II, and has initiated a promotional campaign to ensure public outreach to the Participatory Budgeting.
