A roundtable Rational Use of Rent at the Local Level: A Road to Sustainable Socioeconomic Development of Extractive Regions was held with the participation of the representatives of local governments, extractive companies, the general public, and local media outlets in the urban-type settlement Lypova Dolyna, Sumy Oblast, on 30 August.
At the beginning of the event, Viktor Lytvynenko, chairman of the Lypova Dolyna Raion Council, addressed his welcoming remarks to the participants.
Yurii Buts, an expert with the NOVA Energiya NGO, has told about the environmental problems of extractive regions and ways to address them.
The Chairman of the Board of the NOVA Energiya NGO, Vitalii Filenko has told the audience about the Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative (EITI), which is an international standard of efficient management of resources of the extractive regions and an action plan for sustainable climatic and energy development.
Experts of the NOVA Energiya NGO have familiarized the attendees with the main results of the second EITI Report in Ukraine for the years 2014-2015, and the experience of EITI implementation in various countries, examples of effective collaboration between extractive companies, local governments, and the public towards implementation of social projects and development of the regions.
The roundtable participants have discussed the current situation of ensuring transparency in the operation of extractive industries at the local level.
