Lutsk Citizens Engaged in City’s Budgeting Process

A roundtable Implementation of Participatory Budgeting in Lutsk was held in the city of Lutsk on July 25. The roundtable discussion was joined by City Council members Andrii Pokrovskyi, Maia Shostak, Borys Smal’, Yulia Datsiuk, Tetiana Yanchuk, and Taras Shliakhtych, Director of Finance and Budget Department Lilia Yelova, Director of Economic Policy Department Oleksandr Ozinovych, Deputy Department Director and Head of Investment Policy Section Serhii Omelchuk, as well as representatives of nongovernmental organizations.

The event participants discussed the Draft Regulation of Lutsk Participatory Budgeting. The City Council members and representatives of nongovernmental organizations made comments and suggestions to the document content.

Iryna Storonianska, an expert with the Institute for Regional Development, a subgrantee of the MFSI-II Project, has told the audience about the key principles of participatory budgeting and the opportunities for the public resulting from its implementation. She has also familiarized the attendees with the operation of participatory budgeting based on the Citizens’ Project electronic platform.

A series of training events will take place in Lutsk shortly, where city residents will be familiarized with the best international practices of participatory budgeting and will learn how to prepare a successful project and promote their initiatives.
