Training entitled Sound Resource Management in Extractive Regions of Sumy Oblast was delivered by experts of the NOVA Energia NGO in Sumy on June 15. During this event, representatives of local self-government, citizens, initiative groups, and energy managers received recommendations for developing plans to improve the energy efficiency of settlements, Amalgamated Territorial Communities, and raions.
The training was inaugurated by a presentation made by Valentyna Pelykh, deputy director of the Department of Environment and Conservation of Natural Resources of the city of Sumy, who told the participants about the extractive industry of the Sumy oblast.
Vitalii Filenko, chairman of the NOVA Energia NGO Board told the attendees about the mechanisms of EITI (Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative) for regulation of the energy sector, international standards of efficient resource management in extractive regions, and the basics of an energy audit. A NOVA Energia expert Oleksandr Obrazkov familiarized the audience with the development of energy saving measures and the ways of attracting funds for their implementation. Olena Agapova, manager of the NOVA Energy NGO subgrant informed the training participants about the mechanisms of attracting international technical assistance.
Representatives of local governments and citizens worked in small groups learning how to develop energy efficient measures for social infrastructure assets.
