Information Fair 2009 in Verkhovna Rada
Institute for Budgetary and Socio-Economic Research presented the major trends of its activities within the Municipal Finance Strengthening Initiative project’s implementation during the traditional Information Fair 2009 that was held in Verkhovna Rada premises on 21-22 October, 2009.
The action was initiated by USAID’s legislative strengthening project implemented by Ohio State University, “The Parliamentary Development Project for Ukraine” (PDP II) in cooperation with Secretariat of the Verkhovna Rada.
It was the fifth Verkhovna Rada Information Fair, aimed at the members of Ukrainian Parliament, VR Committees consultants, MP aides and parliamentary journalists to become familiar with implementers of international donor projects and Ukrainian organizations that are actively engaged in the improvement and support of the legislative process.
Edward Rakhimkulov, Deputy Director of the Parliamentary Development Program for Ukraine II opened the ceremonial ribbon cutting ceremony. The ribbon was cut by Laura Pavlovic, USAID, ODG officer, and Yuriy Yasenchuk, the deputy head of the Verkhovna Rada Secretariat.
In his speech, Yuriy Yasenchuk stressed the great benefit gained from previous Information Fairs by MPs and their assistants and wished participants every success. Laura Pavlovic spoke of the benefit from cooperation between the Ukrainian Parliament and USAID sponsored programs as well as with international donor organizations. She stressed the role of civil society today in helping to develop democracy in Ukraine.
There were also short addresses by the managers of the USAID projects, international and civil organizations’ leaders, presented at the arrangement.
The participants of the Information Fair – 2009 listed 39 organizations, among them those supported by the USAID and American government, Ukrainian NGOs, European Union - as well as UN – funded organizations and programs, in particular:
