A Roundtable on Access to Credit Capital and Financing for Business
A roundtable on the topic of “Access to Credit Capital and Financing for Business” was held at the Ukrayinski Novyny News Agency’s Press Center on 22 October 2009. IBSER’s Chief Economist Iryna Pereli took part in the event.
The roundtable, organized by the representative office of the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants in Ukraine, the Baltic States, and the Caucasus, was intended to discuss one of the important issues of present day, namely, access to credit capital and other forms of financing for small and medium-sized businesses, which issue has been one of the most relevant for businesses all over the world for the last two years.
Presented at the roundtable were the findings of the global research of companies' access to finance conducted by the Economist Intelligence Unit, as well as recommendations for governments prepared by АССА, CPAA (Certified Practicing Accountants Association of Australia) and CGA-Сanada (Certified General Accountants Association of Canada).
The following issues were also discussed at the roundtable:
• What are the current opportunities for the Ukrainian business and entrepreneurs to improve access to credit capital and other kinds of financing? — with practical advice by experts.
• What should be the conditions for banks to be able to cut interest rates on credits for small and medium-sized businesses?
• The role of accountants in attracting credit capital and alternative sources for financing businesses in Ukraine.
• What kind of fiscal and tax policy would be able to improve access to finance?
