IBSER Participates in Library Innovation Fair

The Budget Institute has supported the initiative of the Bibliomist Library Modernization Project and participated in the Library Innovation and E-governance Fair, which was held at the Ukrainian House on 11 April 2011.

This event was organized by the Bibliomist program in partnership with the Ministry of Culture of Ukraine, Ukrainian Library Association (ULA), Ukrainian Parliamentary Development Project (PDP II), and the Public Affairs Section of U.S. Embassy.

The Fair was designed to demonstrate to the general public the innovative services that public libraries are providing to local communities using the Internet and modern information technology.

The speakers at the Fair's opening ceremony included Volodymyr Yavorivsky, Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada Committee on Culture and Spirituality; John F. Tefft, U.S. Ambassador to Ukraine; Deborah Jacobs, Director of the Global Libraries Program of the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation; Robert Pearson, President of  the International Research and Exchanges Board (IREX); and Matej Novak, Director of Bibliomist in Ukraine.

The Fair was attended by more than 40 libraries from all over Ukraine (the participants were selected on a competitive basis), which provide innovative services to the general public, and Bibliomist partners: U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID), Public Affairs Section of the U.S. Embassy to Ukraine, and the Ukrainian Library Association (ULA).

In turn, IBSER distributed more than 500 copies of its analytical periodical publications, which were presented in the booth of the U.S. Agency for International Development and distributed among the Fair participants.

Private companies providing services related to libraries and information and communication technology also presented their products at the Fair, including Microsoft, Electronic Library of Ukraine (ELibUkr), as well as publishers of electronic resources, and Internet Service Providers.
