Budget Institute at the 19th Annual NISPAcee Conference

The Budget Institute participated  in the 19th annual Public Administration of the Future conference, which took place in Varna, Bulgaria, on 19-22 May 2011. The event was organized by the Network of Institutes and Schools of Public Administration in Central and Eastern Europe (NISPAcee) in cooperation with Chernorizets Hrabar Varna Free University.

This year’s conference was attended by more than 300 participants from Central and Eastern Europe, the Russian Federation, Caucasus and Central Asia, as well as from the United States. The conference focuses on a significant theme, which facilitates a better understanding of important issues regarding the administrative development and policymaking capacity in Central and Eastern Europe and Central Asia.

Significantly, the Budget Institute participated in the initial meeting of the Working Group on Fiscal Policy. This working group signals NISPAcee’s widening of its focus in an economic orientation. This group’s participants discussed current issues of fiscal policy, public expenditure evaluation and efficiency, fiscal policy in time of economic crisis and local government finance.

The Budget Institute also participated in  the Working Group on Internationalization and Networking of PA Studies, which paid special attention to issues regarding new challenges to improving public servant training, the importance of internationalization and networking for public servant training and possibilities for applying international experience.

The 19th Annual NISPAcee Conference provided an opportunity to share ideas and experience with colleagues from other countries, discuss the current issues in the area of public administration, and establish contacts with foreign partners. The international experience gleaned by IBSER experts at the conference will contribute to the continual improvement of the work of the Municipal Finance Strengthening Initiative Project.
