Training for Representatives of Mykolaiv City Youth NGOs
22 December 2014
To effectively engage the public in the budget process, the MFSI-II Project experts delivered training for representatives of the Mykolaiv city nongovernmental organizations on 19 December 2014.
The training was attended by representatives of 26 youth NGOs from the city of Mykolaiv. As experience shows, young people in Ukraine have quite limited knowledge about either the budget process or the reforms launched in Ukraine. This decreases the level of citizen participation both in the formation of local budgets, and in monitoring the efficient spending of budget funds.
In order to engage youth in the budget process, the MFSI-II experts familiarized the participants with the basics of budget legislation and problem issues in the operation of local budgets. Special focus was made on discussing the issue of budgetary and fiscal decentralization and its implications for budgets at all levels.
Active participation of citizens will increase the efficiency of using the budget funds, will significantly improve the budget process transparency, and help reduce corrupt practices.
