MFSI-II and Quality Street Lighting in Chernivtsi
18 September 2015
The joint efforts of the Municipal Finance Strengthening Initiative Roll-out (MFSI-II) Project and the City of Chernivtsi will help improve the quality of street lighting in this city.
Thanks to the advisory support provided by the MFSI-II Project, the Chernivtsi municipal administration has received approval from the Ministry of Finance for the amount and terms of borrowing for financing its investment project Street Lighting in the City of Chernivtsi.
As part of the project, it is planned to replace 1016 incandescent bulbs currently used in municipal street lights with light-emitting diode lamps, as well as to install ten standalone LED light fixtures in remote locations where no grid connection is available. Such lamps combine the highest light intensity with the lowest energy consumption.
After the completion of all the efficiency measures, the expected energy conservation will include electricity savings of 367.9MW per annum and total CO2 emissions will be reduced by 101.1 metric tons yearly.
The successful implementation of the Street Lighting in the City of Chernivtsi project will save UAH 500,000 of municipal funds per year, provide improved safety for both drivers and pedestrians, and help fight crime.
