Implementation of Energy Saving Activities in Sumy Educational Institutions

On 24 September 2015, thanks to support from the Municipal Finance Strengthening Initiative (MFSI-II) Roll-out Project, the city of Sumy received approval from the Ministry of Finance of Ukraine to incur a loan for implementing the Improving the Energy Efficiency in Educational Institutions of the City of Sumy project.
The project's main objective is reducing energy consumption in educational institutions of the city of Sumy, as well as introducing energy efficient technologies and equipment. The project envisages the implementation of the following actions: replacement of window panes and external doors; installation of an automatic heating control system; replacement of existing lamps with more energy efficient lamps; insulation of walls; and the replacement of heat radiators.
The implementation of this project will have a significant economic and ecological impact, in particular, it will help save UAH 1.5 million of public funds per year. After all of the activities are implemented, 46.3KWof electricity will be saved per year, 1.22MW/year of heat, and total CO2 emissions will fall by 368.0 metric tons per year.
Project implementation will improve the temperature comfort of the children's stay in the educational institutions, which will contribute to better health for the pupils and as a result improve the completeness and quality of their education.
