International Forum on Sustainable Resource Management Held

On December 7 – 8, 2015, the experts of Municipal Finance Strengthening Initiative (MFSI-II) Roll-out participated in the International Forum on Sustainable Resource Management. The event was organized in association with the Ministry of Energy and Coal Industry of Ukraine, Dixi Group Analytical Center, the World Bank and the International Renaissance Foundation.
The representatives of the EITI International Secretariat, the EITI national Secretariat, the independent administrator (Ernst&Young), international experts, civil society organizations and officials participated in the event.
Within the Forum, its participants considered and discussed topical issues on the implementation of the Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative (EITI) in Ukraine, including the realization of the EITI standard in Ukraine to improve the extractive industry management, to increase the investment climate, to combat corruption and to strengthen the role of the civil society in the extractive industry transparency and accounting.
The first published 2013 report of the EITI in Ukraine was a key effort of the Forum.
Based on the results of the event, the range of issues, which should be taken into account when finalizing the technical task to prepare the second 2014 report of the EITI of Ukraine, to improve legislative and regulatory affairs of the EITI, was determined.
Implementing the EITI in Ukraine will in general reduce corruption risks and allow the citizens of the mining regions of Ukraine to influence their local authorities and mining companies that they take efforts to reduce the negative affect of the extractive industry on local territories and increase the welfare of the citizens.
