A Roundtable Held on Discussing Recommendations for Promoting EITI Implementation in Ukraine Based on Results of MSG Delegation Visit to Norway
The USAID Municipal Finance Strengthening Initiative (MFSI-II) Roll-out Project conducted a roundtable in Kyiv on 30 June, on the topic of Discussing Recommendations for Promoting the Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative (EITI) Implementation in Ukraine Based on Results of the Multi-Stakeholder Group (MSG) Delegation Visit to Norway.
As part of this event, the participants discussed recommendations for improving the process of EITI implementation in Ukraine based on the results of the Multi-Stakeholder Group visit to Oslo, Norway. The study tour was organized by the MFSI-II Project for the representatives of government agencies and the civil society on the issues of EITI implementation in Ukraine. Based on the gained experience, the key challenges for further EITI implementation in Ukraine shall be the need to: (1) Develop a concept of the White Book of Ukrainian Extractive Industries, which is a strategic vision of the priorities and ways of further development of extractive industries; and (2) Transition to an electronic format of reporting.
The roundtable participants have also familiarized themselves with decisions of the EITI Board, and the goals and objectives of the EITI Communications Strategy in the extractive regions of Ukraine for the current year.
The summarized recommendations will be sent out to all stakeholders of EITI implementation in Ukraine, including Ms. Olha Belkova, deputy chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine on fuel and energy complex, nuclear policy, and nuclear safety, for further development of the Initiative in Ukraine.
