Launching Participatory Budget in Khmelnytskyi
24 October 2016
On 20 October, the Khmelnytskyi City Council with the Institute for Budgetary and Socio-Economic Research (IBSER) held a roundtable “Implementation of Participatory Budgeting in Khmelnytskyi” under USAID Municipal Finance Strengthening Initiative (MFSI-II) Roll-out Project. The event was chaired by City Mayor Oleksandr Semchyshyn. More than 40 persons, including representatives of the City Council, nongovernmental organizations, and the media, took part in the roundtable.
MFSI-II experts told the Khmelnytskyi residents about the implementation of participatory budget, the fine points and the specifics of this process. A Citizens’ Project electronic system developed under MFSI-II Project was presented at the event. On 20 October, this system successfully went online at the Khmelnytskyi City Council website and is now available at: https://gp.khm.gov.ua/. The system enables residents to submit their own projects intended for improving life of their community in any Ukrainian city. The project to get the greatest number of residents’ votes will be realized at the expense of city budget funds.
